Calvin Klein had a successful career in Europe, but for one flaw: He regularly jumped his rider out of the tack! That defect was Jonathon Millar’s gain.

“I had been looking for a Grand Prix prospect for months when Emile Hendrix called to say he had a seven-year old I should see. I flew to Europe the next day. Three days later we bought him,” says Jonathon.

Brought along slowly, Calvin Klein campaigned under both Amy and Jon between 2011 and 2013. The focus has always been on developing him for an international career.

“He gives you a great feeling over the jumps. He has all the power and scope in the world. He has a huge heart. And he really tries to please his rider,” says Jon. “There’s a quiet calmness and confidence about him that’s lovely.”

You might say he’s a lot like Jon, actually.

“I have high hopes for Calvin. He’s the horse I’m hoping to qualify for the 2014 World Equestrian Games.”
